The Marangu Route Day 1 Arusha

Arrive Arusha and transfer to Mountain Village Lodge or similar. Evening briefing and checking of equipment. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2 Arusha-Marangu-Mandara Hut

Drive to the Park gate and meet your porters and guide. Then trek through the forest for 3-4 hours to Mandara Hut for overnight at 2765m/9070ft.

Day 3 Mandara-Horombo Hut

Leave the forest, crossing moorland dotted with giant lobelias.Horombo Hut is reached after 5-6 hours trek at 3790m/12430ft for overnight.

Day 4 Horombo-Kibo Hut

Today’s trek is about 4 hours and traverses the saddle with its moonlike landscape. Pass the ‘last water’ point to Kibo Hut at 4750m/15600ft and overnight.

Day 5 Kibo-Summit-Horombo Hut

Your day starts at 0200 hours for the final ascent up the scree, whilst it is frozen, to Gilman’s Point to watch the sunrise.This takes about 5 hours.Then it is an ‘easy’ trek to the summit.Later return down the Mountain to Horombo Hut for overnight.

Day 6 Horombo-Arusha

An easy paced walk down to the gate of Marangu and then transfer to Mountain Village or similar for overnight and a HOT SHOWER.

Day 7 Arusha

This morning after a hearty breakfast transfer to Town where the tour ends. Cost per person: 1100 USD
