Wasini Island is located away from the coast of Mombasa(105km).In the early morning you leave for the tiny fishing village of Shimoni not far from Tanzania border. The route passes through the cashew nuts, coconuts and sugarcane plantations and then the verdant villages of the digo people.From the Shimoni jetty,a Swahili sailing ship,now motorized for flexibility, carries you through the enchanting escape of islets and reefs to the marvel of the underwater world of Kisite.
The Kenyan marine parks are developed to protect the coral and the fish which live in the underwater areas,so that the visitors can continue to enjoy the inhabitants which are no longer devastated by the shell collectors and traders who destroy the gardens in search lof curio items.You cannot afford to miss floating in this world of marine fantasy.Goggling and snorkeling are activities that take place at the park for 2hrs on either side of the low tides when water movements least disturbs the bottom of the ocean and the coral gardens are near the surface.
Goggling equipments are available for hire.You will eat gargantuan sea food lunch including:a whole crab steamed in ginger in the ancient island of Wasini.Harvested from natural meat bounteous ocean.After lunch there is an optional guided walk to Wasini Island village and the coral gardens.For your protection you need to take sandals,sun protection creams,or tennis shoes.When visiting the village,please respect the local traditions.You need a cover-up dress,sarong or kikoi to visit the Muslims villange in Wasini.At the end of the day,visitors are ferried back to the jetty where their transport awaits to return them back to the hotels in the early hours of the evening.
